Kicking Off Boston In Common
Good evening, I’m Larry Ellison, born and raised in the city of Boston and served as a police officer for the city for 39 years. I’ve worked in every section of the city and sadly noticed that each area operated in a different way. There was a sentiment that what happens in other areas is ‘not my problem.’ Unfortunately, that feeling is just not in policing but far too often, we see it in our residents as well. I think we all would agree that the solo approach does not serve any of us as a community.
We are here tonight to ask for your support in a collaborative effort to help all residents in the city with identified issues that impact us all. We should no longer depend on just elected officials to deal with our issues although we should hold them accountable, whoever is in office. This effort is not about getting anyone elected but about strategizing a new path forward and coming together as a city to do so. I would like to introduce two of my friends: Diane Valle of Charlestown and Joan Seamster from Roxbury, who will assist in tonight’s meeting and when we’re done we hope to add you to our list of partners to uplift the city of Boston. Thank you for your time and attention. We are not the leaders nor do we want to be led.
